solar service engineer
job summary:
the solar service engineer is responsible for providing technical support and maintenance services for photovoltaic (pv) solar energy systems. This includes conducting site inspections, diagnosing system issues, performing repairs and preventative maintenance on solar panels, inverters, racking and electrical components.
key responsibilities:
- respond to service requests and troubleshoot issues with residential, commercial or utility-scale pv systems
- perform scheduled maintenance and inspection services according to manufacturer recommendations
- diagnose problems through visual inspections, testing equipment and analyzing monitoring data
- repair or replace defective solar panels, inverters, optimizers, cables, disconnects and other components
- re-program and update inverter/monitoring system firmware and software
- evaluate system production and advise on optimizing performance and energy yields
- ensure pv systems meet code requirements, safety standards and pass inspections
- provide technical guidance to installers on system design, commissioning and o&m best practices
- complete service reports and documentation for work performed on client sites
- maintain knowledge of new solar technologies, equipment and installation methods
qualifications:
- associate's degree in electrical, renewable energy or related technical field
- nabcep pv associate certification or equivalent training/coursework
- 2+ years of experience servicing and maintaining solar pv systems
- proficiency in solar site analysis, system sizing and design software
- working knowledge of inverters, optimizers, modules, racking and electrical theory
- expertise in troubleshooting pv systems and diagnostic equipment
- electrical safety training (nfpa 70e) and working at heights certification
- strong technical writing skills for reporting and documentation
- willingness to travel to client sites, sometime for extended periods
- valid driver's license with clean driving record
